The East Midtown Partnership is a not-for-profit corporation which manages a Business Improvement District (B.I.D.) located in the Borough of Manhattan, New York City. The East Midtown district sprawls across all or part of 48 blocks between East 49th Street, Second Avenue, East 63rd Street, and Fifth Avenue. Among more than 400 properties in the district are the flagship location of Bloomingdale's, the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, the Lipstick Building, 432 Park Avenue, 731 Lexington Avenue, and Central Synagogue.
Operating under a contract with the New York City Department of Small Business Services, the organization provides sanitation, public safety, and homeless outreach services to supplement existing municipal services. The East Midtown Partnership also undertakes marketing, special events, beautification, and streetscape improvement programs to improve the overall quality of life and enhance the commercial appeal of the district.
The East Midtown Partnership was incorporated in 2001 and began operations in March, 2002 as New York City's 44th Business Improvement District. It is the ninth-largest New York City B.I.D. in budget ($2.2 million) and square feet of commercial space (28 million).
An small administrative staff manages day to day operations. East Midtown Partnership President Rob Byrnes has led the organization since January 2002. Oversight is provided by a 35-member Board of Directors comprised primarily of district stakeholders and chaired since 2008 by Debra Fechter of Digby Management Co. LLC. Other entities represented on the Board of Directors include 59E59 Theaters, Bloomberg L. P., Boston Properties, CBRE Group, Cohen Brothers Realty Corporation, Denihan Hospitality Group, The Fund for Park Avenue, Le Cirque, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, State Bank of India, State University of New York, and Vornado Realty Trust.
The organization is funded through an assessment on commercial property located within the district.
