EcoCover Limited of New Zealand has used biomimicry principles to develop an organically certified biodegradable mulch mat made from shredded waste paper bound with fish paste. The product, a substitute for black plastic sheeting used in agriculture, reduces the need for pesticides, conserves water, improves soil, and diverts fish waste and waste paper from landfills.[1][2][3]
