EditPad is a Notepad replacement text editor for Windows, with multi-Tabs, regular expression search and replace, syntax highlighting, macros, and multi-lingual Unicode support.[6]
An unlimited number of files with any (large) size, with lines of any (large) length, may be edited, such as text-based datasets, since EditPad is disk-based, and files are not loaded in RAM.[7][8][9]
EditPad[edit]
EditPad is a text editor for Windows, created in 1996, by Jan Goyvaerts, then a civil engineering student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, as Postcardware, requesting a postcard as payment.[3][10][11] With expanded functionality over Windows Notepad.exe, it is also a drop-in replacement, such that it can be renamed "Notepad.exe" and replaced in all locations that Windows Notepad.exe is found.[12][13]
Five products have been called EditPad, the original, retronymed Classic, 16-bit , Linux, Lite, and Pro. Maintenance of Classic, 16-bit , and Linux was discontinued.[14][15] Lite, and Pro continue to be developed. Classic, Linux, Lite, and Pro, all are available, in many versions, from either Jan Goyvaerts' websites or third-party download sites. Wine (software) enables Classic, Lite, and Pro use on Unix-like operating systems.
Competing software[edit]
There are other text editors with some similar functionalities, including free software, freeware, and shareware such as AkelPad, Metapad, Notepad2, Notepad++, Notetab, and TED Notepad.

EditPad 16-bit[edit]
"The first 16-bit version was EditPad 16-bit 3.4.2, which was based on the source code of EditPad 3.4.0, heavily modified to make it work under Windows 3.1x. This version has been superseded by EditPad 16-bit 3.4.3, as the other version contained a few serious bugs. I am not planning to actively develop the 16-bit version, so there will not be any future 16-bit versions."—Jan Goyvaerts[66]
EditPad Linux[edit]
EditPad Linux was first released in 2003,[citation needed] using Borland Kylix, a Linux software development environment which ran under Microsoft Windows, and the last EditPad Linux (5.4.6) was in March 2006, after Borland Kylix was discontinued.[87][88][89][90]
Edit Pad Lite[edit]
Edit Pad Lite is the freeware version (free for personal use). [75][91][92][93] Third-party downloads have resulted in caching of out-dated versions.[94][95][96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103][104][105][106][107][108][109][110]

You can fix this by renaming EditPad.exe to NotePad.exe and putting it in your Windows directory, overwriting the old NotePad.exe Then run the new NotePad.exe (EditPad), pick Options>Configure from the menu and click on OK to update the EditPad links to the new exe.
