Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko is a pastor, author and Electronic Communications Engineer based in Accra, Ghana. He is experienced in radio frequency spectrum management and has been involved in the electronic communications regulatory space in the African region over the last 15 years.[1] He is currently the Acting Director, Engineering Division of the National Communications Authority as well as the current chairman of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Task Group on Development of Spectrum Recommendations for Rural Connectivity.

Education[edit]

Fianko had his basic education at St. Martin de Porres School in Dansoman, Accra. For his secondary level education he attended the Pope John Senior Secondary School and Junior Seminary located at Koforidua in the Eastern Region. [2]Edmund attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi where he had his tertiary education and in the process attained a first degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. He also has a Masters in Communications Management degree from the Buckinghamshire New University in England.[1][2]

Career[edit]

In 2004, Fianko began his career as a National Service Person at the National Communications Authority. Since joining the Authority, Fianko has aided in the sustainability and development of the Ghanaian telecommunications sector. In time, he became the Ag.Director of the Engineering Division.[1] He has served as both Chairman and Member of technical and regulatory committees, responsible for standards and guidelines in industry regulation which influenced the strategic direction of the Authority. During his tenure as the Secretary to the Digital Broadcasting Migration Committee, he organized the work of a multi-stakeholder national body to form and initiate policies regarding the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting.[2]

African Telecommunication Union Experience[edit]

Currently, Ing. Fianko is the chairman of the African Telecommunication Union(ATU) task group on Development of Spectrum Recommendations for Rural Connectivity.[2]

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Experience[edit]

In 2022, Ing. Fianko was elected to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations Board as a representative for region D (Africa) for the 2023 - 2026.[3] He is also a member of the ITU Policy and Regulation Initiative for Digital Africa (PRIDA) and has served as a consultant for the ECOWAS Commission on Broadcasting and Spectrum Management on multiple occasions. He has also served as a speaker for various broadcasting/ telecom conferences and workshops organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization (CTO).

Minister of the Gospel[edit]

Ing. Fianko is a minister affiliated with the Methodist church Ghana. He is the leader and founder of an evangelistic ministry known as Nkwa life.[4] He is also an author.
