Edwin Mwesigwa, (born December 8, 1992), also known as DJ Edwyn, is radio presenter, and Deejay from Mbarara, Uganda. He last worked as a show host, Radio DJ and Music Director at Mbarara based radio station, 91.2 Crooze FM. An accomplished Radio show host, DJ Edwyn has won many awards and is the reigning Radio Personality of the Year in Western Uganda. He is the recipient of both the Blink Media Award 2014 and Royal Western Award 2015 in the Best radio Personality category.
Early life and career beginnings[edit]
DJ Edwyn was born in Uganda but his family originates from Rwanda, on his father's side. He went to Mbarara University of Science and Technology where he studied and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology in January 2015. According to an article in the Daily Monitor, one of Uganda's largest independent newspapers, DJ Edwyn worked at Crooze FM from June 2013, after responding to a call by Crooze FM for a radio presenter. "I was put on air, remained focused and hardworking, grew through the ranks and I ended up a Music Director at the station. So, you can say my journey started in June 2013, and I have no idea when it will end because I love what I do!" the humorous but no-nonsense lad put it in his Interview with the nation's biggest newspaper.[1]
In 2015 Mwesigwa was selected as Western Uganda's "best radio personality of the year" for 2014.[2]
Notable Work[edit]
DJ Edwyn was not only the music director at 91.2 Crooze FM but also hosted shows on weekdays and weekends. First, he hosted The Evening Switch, a drive show that aired every Monday to Friday, 5pm to 8pm, then Your Choice, a show where people’s song requests were played (probably the show people loved the most). It aired on Sunday 2pm to 5pm. He also hosted the African Rhythms and this one aired every Saturday, from 5pm to 8pm. He also occasionally did live Video mixing in popular clubs and bars around Mbarara. His mass-communication prowess and popularity made him the most suitable choice DJ and emcee at the regional edition of Uganda's biggest entertainment party[3] - The Purple Party, hosted by Douglas Lwanga of NTV the Beat.
Personal Life[edit]
Little is known about DJ Edwyn's personal life, and whereabouts, or what he is doing at the moment. He took a sabbatical from the Entertainment Industry in August 2016 thereby resigning from both his Deejaying and Radio positions. He currently resides in Tijuana, Mexico
