Oupa Joseph Makwela (born January 30, 1988), is a South African artist, DJ and record producer better known by his stage name El Payo (formerly DJ El Payo). He gained recognition after the release of a lead single 'Frequency' from his debut EP 'Enchanted Meditation' [1] under Stay True Sounds, a label led by a Scottish-born South African-adopted Kid Fonque.[2][3]
Biography[edit]
El Payo is a Spanish word translated from 'The Non-Gypsy Man' , whose legal name is Oupa Joseph Makwela, born and raised in Seshego, Limpopo. His musical journey began in early 2007 while he was still in high school, at that time he was only a DJ. He was one of the winners of the remix competition of the Kid Fonque X Jonny Miller – Somewhere ft Jaidene Veda tune.[3]
