Khumbulani Remember Mbatha better known as Khumz is a South African singer and songwriter.
Early life
Khumz started singing and dancing at age 7, and was then allowed to sing more often when he joined his Church Sunday School Choir, where he was able to groom and train his voice. Khumz did not pursue music as a career until he lost both his parents, who were both singers. His parents met in a choir and both had a dream to become musicians one day, so their passing was a big life-changer for Khumz. He then joined a rap group when he was in high school and was very popular among his peers and teachers. The group Fresh Blood Music managed to perform on the Hip Hop Festival Stage in 2016, where they shared a stage with AKA, Emtee, and Kwesta. The group then travelled to Johannesburg in search of a record label, but that did not go well as the group was forced to split due to differing goals. Khumz then went on to pursue his solo career and was taken in by one of Umlazi’s biggest producers, Sbu Plan B Gumede, who went on to produce one of Khumz's popular songs, Boity. This song gave Khumz a lot of street credibility and fans.[peacock prose] He then started performing at well-known local places in Umlazi such as Eyadini and Maxis Lifestyle. Not long after that, he was signed to one of Durban’s most popular record labels, Wolfpack X[1]
Music career
Khumz started his career at the age of 16 as a dancer and a singer in Umlazi. Performing in popular local places such as Eyadini and Maxis Lifestyle. He was then discovered by one of Umlazi's top producers, Sbu Plan B Gumede, founder and executive producer of Masterplan Entertainment, home of Mlyza, S.Y.A, Philasande Mdletshe. Plan B went on to produce one of Khumz's well-known songs, "Boity". Then, he was signed to one of South Africa's top leading independent record labels, The Wolf Pack X, founded by Aewon Wolf and Sketchy Bongo. As part of the Wolfpack X with Sketchy Bongo, Khumz got the opportunity to open for Justin Bieber's Purpose World Tour in South Africa [2]. Where he performed in front of 60,000 people in Johannesburg and 70,000 people in Cape Town. He became one of the featured acts on the Party with the Wolf Pack event, alongside Aewon Wolf, Sketchy Bongo, Kyle Deutsch, Kaien Cruz, Locnville, and many more, together with national radio station 5fm [3]. He has also shared a stage with the likes of AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Danny K, and Davido. With this short period of time in the music industry, Khumz has managed to work with artists such as Riky Rick [4], Vigro Deep [5], Big Star Johnson, Locnville, Tellaman and Golden Black. His song Rolling [6] featuring Aewon Wolf was playlisted on Gagasi FM and Metro FM. It made the Gagasi 99.5 FM top 20 in 2017.
