El Vaquero is the student newspaper of Glendale Community College.[1] Since 2008, the newspaper has also published the GCC Insider magazine.[2]
The newspaper is published eight times per semester.[3]
History
The newspaper was founded as the Galleon in 1927. In 1936, it changed its name to El Vaquero, to reflect the school’s mascot, the vaquero.[4]
In 2008, the newspaper introduced the GCC Insider magazine.[5]
In 2018, the newspaper moved to the new Sierra Vista building on campus.[6]
Location
The El Vaquero office and newsroom is located on the first floor of the Sierra Vista building.[7]
Awards
El Vaquero won twenty Journalism Association of Community Colleges awards in 2005, setting a one-year record for itself.[8]
