Elephant Larry

Elephant Larry is a sketch comedy group from New York City. They were formed in 2002 and have been performing since, most recently at The Peoples Improv Theater.

History[edit]

All five Elephants (Geoff Haggerty, Stefan Lawrence, Chris "the Messiah" Principe, Jeff Solomon and Alexander Zalben) are former members of Cornell University's sketch comedy group, the Skits-O-Phrenics. During their time with the Skits, they wrote, directed and performed in over 20 sketch comedy shows.

Since their inception, Elephant Larry has created eleven shows: Dawn of Elephant Larry, ElephantoberFest, The Precinct, The Syrup & Butter Show, A Tree Grows in Elephant Larry, All Aboard The U.S.S. Boatship, The Crime Machine, BOOM, Ninja Christmas, the appropriately titled Elephant Larry and Caveman Christmas.

Elephant Larry has been reviewed in newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Seattle Stranger, Back Stage, and more.

Elephant Larry has been named a Time Out New York "Don't Miss" critic's pick for most of 2006.

They have won the following awards:
- Winners, first ever Sketch Fights Competition at Caroline's on Broadway, claiming the title of "New York City's Best Comedy Writers."
- Back Stage Top 10 Comedy Best Bet 2004
- Winners, Bass Red Triangle Comedy Competition (Audience & Jury Awards)

They have performed at the New York International Fringe Festival ('04), Spoleto Festival ('06), Chicago SketchFest ('04, '05, '06, '07), SF Sketchfest ('05, '07), Best of the Best SketchFest (in Portland, '04, '05, '06), Seattle SketchFest ('04, '05, '06), SketchFest NYC ('05, '06), HA! Comedy Festival ('03), and at Caroline's, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and Madison Square Garden.

Internet Sketches[edit]

Elephant Larry's sketches have been featured regularly on Collegehumor.com, and BestWeekEver.tv. In 2006, one of their live sketches based on the Street Fighter 2 video game was viewed by over half a million people in the first month alone. In 2007, they co-produced "Minesweeper: The Movie" with CollegeHumor.com, which has been seen by millions worldwide, and translated into German and Russian.

Great Sketch Experiment[edit]

Elephant Larry was one of six finalists for The Great Sketch Experiment, being run by JibJab. The six short videos, including Elephant Larry's "Tall Cop Short Cop," were directed by John Landis and heavily promoted on the site. Elephant Larry lost the contest, which carried a $10,000 grand prize, to Famous Last Nerds.
