Elisha Ben Yitzhak (Hebrew: אלישע בן יצחק; born October 4, 1943) is an Israeli painter and the CEO of Heavenly International Tours. His paintings have been exhibited worldwide and have received awards. He is the founder of the International Biennale Artists.
Biography
Elisha Ben Yitzhak was born in Kibbutz Kfar Blum, Israel. His parents immigrated to Israel in 1936 after being involved in the Zionist movement. Raised in the Kibbutz, Ben Yitzhak worked on the farm as a child. He served as a paratrooper in the Israeli army. Ben Yitzhak began painting after witnessing a close friend's death in a 1963 training accident involving a hand grenade. In 1966, he began studying under master artists at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and two years later he studied art at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv.
In 1985, Ben Yitzhak moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States, after working for the Israeli Ministry of Tourism. In 1971, Ben Yitzhak served as an educational emissary to South Africa and Zimbabwe, and from 1980 to 1983, he served as a cultural emissary to the Midwest region of the United States. He did not paint for 21 years. [1] In 2006, he resumed painting. His first painting after 21 years was titled “Emotions”.
In 2009, Ben Yitzhak was invited to exhibit his paintings at the prestigious Florence Biennale exhibition of contemporary art. It was there that he founded the International Biennale Artists group, comprising over 1200 acclaimed artists from around the world. The group's principles aim to foster dialogue among artists and facilitate group exhibitions globally.
In 2010, the NY Arts Magazine featured him prominently on its website. Susan Walshe, the Executive Editor, published a comprehensive article about Ben Yitzhak's art.[2] Leon Harari, an art critic, wrote about Ben Yitzhak's art: ““Elisha’s pictures have a unique and independent style of their own, with so much rhythm. Most of his images combine both figurative and surrealistic elements, as if they were taken from a different world, but yet are strikingly realistic and appealing. When looking at Elisha’s paintings you feel a certain warmth radiating from the different colors. As one gazes, one is lulled by the lyrical composition of the delicate lines. These colors have an impact similar to the effect of pastels in the work of the great impressionists. Elisha expresses his feelings, emotions, and personal experiences through most astonishing paintings, which are revered around the world and considered extraordinary. The more you gaze at these paintings, the more you love them, so much so that you cannot help but be affected by the artist’s romanticism.”
In 2012, he was selected, along with several other artists, to appear in the "Russian Art 2012" book, published by the "Russian Art" project, [3] which features artists' paintings and biographies. The anthology is one of the most important editorial projects and the most respected authority in Russia in the field of art. Elisha chose to display his paintings "In Jaffa", "Monologue", "My Song", and "Silent Love", upon the recommendation of the Russian art critic Mr. Andrey Epishin.
Ben Yitzhak has two daughters and a son, and currently lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
