Elizabeth Lecron was arrested for plotting an "upscale mass murder" at a Toledo, Ohio bar,[1] days after Damon Joseph; another Ohioan was arrested for plotting to target a Synagogue.[2] Lecron had multiple screws and gunpowder that could be used to make bombs.[3]
Background
She has been described by investigators as having "a fascination with mass casualty events" and as being "committed to seeing death and destruction in order to advance hate."[4] Lecron had disturbing social media pages which included idolizing mass murderers and serial killers, including Dylann Roof and the Columbine shooters. She also wrote letters to the mass murderer Dylann Roof, and he responded, requesting Nazi books and receiving them along with words of encouragement and statements expressing that "people care for him."[5]
Criminal history
Lecron first came to the attention of authorities in June 2018, when a member of the public contacted Toledo Police to report that she was interested in carrying out a violent attack and possessed several weapons, including the means to create a pipe bomb.[6] The caller also noted that Lecron used the site Tumblr to express admiration for Dylann Roof, the Columbine shooters, and other mass shootings, and visited some of the locations.[6]
She was arrested on December 10, 2018, after purchasing black powder and screws for making a bomb. Lecron also told an undercover agent that she wanted to target a Toledo bar and discussed bombing a pipeline or attacking a farm.[7] She was charged with one count of transporting explosives and explosive material for the purposes of harming others and property.[8]
