Ellp is a Windows[1] based freeware application that automates day-to-day PC tasks.[2] It is developed by startup Ellp in Malta and was officially launched on 3 November 2016.The application helps people automate, the most common and critical tasks on their device in a personalized way.[3] It connects hardware to software and web-based platforms.[4] These automations are triggered based on a set of rules around productivity, performance, security, and entertainment.[5]
Ellp has gained attention[6][7][8] both internationally and locally, in Malta - being featured by local[9][10] and international[11][12][13] Internet portals. Ellp is available worldwide, with the top user countries being United Kingdom, France[14], Germany[15], Poland[16][17], the Netherlands, Croatia[18], Spain [19], and Japan. It runs on Windows and is currently available in English language only.
Etymology
The term ‘Ellp’, is a word-play of the word ‘help’.
History
- Ellp was founded on January 13, 2016, by a team of tech enthusiasts[20]
- September 1, 2016, Ellp opened the exclusive Early Access signup for the Beta version via the Ellp website
- October 17, 2016, the exclusive Beta was launched for Early Access users.
- November 3, 2016, the public Beta was launched.
- Ellp has been downloaded over 80,000 times[21] and in May 2017, Ellp reached the 20,000 users milestone.
Features
Overview
Ellp employs the following concepts:
Platform: This is the downloadable user interface, it is the tool that users interact with.
Ellp cards: Ellp uses an arrangement of cards called Ellp cards. Each card has a different function that represents a different automation, that can be activated and personalized according to the user's needs.
Rules: The ‘Ellp cards’ are based on a rule system. Each time a rule is applied there is a corresponding action.
Triggers and actions: To understand how the cards work, Ellp uses a trigger-action effect. For instance, this trigger can be a preference which the user chooses; Every day at 10 am, give me a weather update, When I plug in my headphones, open Skype, and When I turn on my PC, open my favorite website.
Usage examples
- Ellp can automate the user’s interaction with web-applications, such as downloading tagged Facebook photos.[12]
- Ellp can automate activities around PC peripherals, such as opening YouTube when headphones or any sound output device has been plugged in the PC.
- Ellp can send alerts and notifications for data breaches, tagged photos, duplicate files, after a privacy cleanup, when the user's hard disk gets close to being full[22].
