The Emmarentia Public Library is situated on the corner of Barry Hertzog and Greenhill road in Emmarentia, Johannesburg, South Africa. This facility offers a small, but well run space, that offers a balance between fiction and reference materials in analogue and digital form.[1]
Emmarentia Public Library also has public computers with Internet access and free Wi-Fi.[2] Patrons who interact and engage with staff can be guided by a highly qualified librarian with a Masters of Information Science (obtained with a merit) from the University of Zululand. Qualified librarians have local [3] and international digital transformation expertise,[4] and is also a recognized Wikipedian.[5] Librarians use their degrees and experience to serve, empower and explore self-check-out systems with surrounding community with projects such as PAIL (Public Access to Internet in Libraries),[6] with Wits University and eduroam partnering with them to provide access to 36 of the approximately 90 public libraries in the city. [7]
Whether learning to read, using desktop computers for research, or becoming mobile literate, Emmarentia Library is making a difference to the community.
