Sandton Public Library
Sandton Public Library is a multi story building, located on the east side[1] of Nelson Mandela Square. This building has been recognized by the South African Institute of Architects and Co-Arc International Architects Won a Merit Award in 1995, for acting as " clear example of architecture mediating between the world as we find it and the world as we wish it to be."[2]
The library has a separate section for children literature, a reference section and almost 200 seats for studies.[3] The library has a catalogue of over 92 000 print books and a collection of multi media including audio books, videos and music. [4]

History
The Library was first opened in 1994. The total construction cost was 20 million rand according to the Sandton Town Council journal released in that year. [5]
Construction
The design was based on creating 3 separate spaces,[6] namely:
- A public library
- Council chambers
- Low Rise Art Gallery
Public Library
The Public Library consist of two floors which include over 96 000 books
Council Chambers
The council chambers consist of boardroom for council meetings
