Encorps Drum and Bugle Corps is an Open Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps based in South Brunswick, New Jersey. The corps competes in Drum Corps International (DCI).[1][2][3]
History[edit]
In late 2017, Pat Patrillo decided to start a new New Jersey drum and bugle corps. Putting together an exploratory committee and advisory board, he had the organization underway within six months. Area music educators were invited to be involved, and several "legendary" drum corps instructors joined the staff. When the 2018 drum corps season began, Encorps entered the field as an 80-member SoundSport team that also performed exhibitions at several DCI and Drum Corps Associates shows.[4]
Following an in-depth evaluation, in March 2019, Encorps was approved to compete regionally in DCI's Open Class.[5] Prior to the 2020 season, Encorps was planning to go to the 2020 DCI Open Class Championships in Marion, Indiana but DCI informed them that they only still had to do only regional shows. The Board of Directors decided to fold the corps before the 2020 season got started.[6]
Sponsorship[edit]
Encorps is sponsored by Jersey Arts and Music, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) musical organization that has a Board of Directors, corps director, and staff assigned to carry out the organization's mission. Mona Garbely is the Executive Director, and Pat Petrillo is the Creative Director.[7]
