Eric Samuel Hicks (born May 1986) is a Canadian actor. He began his acting career shortly before achieving recognition at the Canadian Model and Talent Convention, for which he received the Overall Best Talent award in 2008.[1]
Hicks is known for his performances in film and television. He played recurring roles on the CTV Television series Cardinal (2017-2020) and Badblood (2018) and has starred in the feature films White Night (2017),[2] Christmas Wedding Planner (2017), and Love in Harmony Valley (2020).[3]
Early life and education
In 2008, Hicks moved to Toronto to pursue acting full-time.[4]
Career
He attended an actor's residency at Norman Jewison's Canadian Film Centre in 2018 but left halfway through to play a highly trained PMC soldier tasked with containing mutants in the sci-fi action film Enhanced (2019).[5]
In November 2015, CTV announced it had commissioned a series Cardinal (2017-2020) based on Canadian mystery novelist Giles Blunt's bestselling John Cardinal books, for which Hicks was cast as a recurring character throughout all four seasons.[6] The series would go on to win 23 Canadian Screen Awards and gain Hicks public attention for his role as the naive Constable Fox working alongside detectives Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse.[7] The series premiered on February 25, 2017, to positive reviews.[8] In 2017, Around this same time Hicks had several supporting roles in the Christmas films Christmas Wedding Planner, and Christmas Catch.[9]
In 2018, CTV and Netflix renewed the Canadian Screen Award winning series Badblood (2018) for a second season, casting Hicks as a series regular playing an RCMP officer working for the Montreal drug cartel, headed by mob boss Declan Gardiner being portrayed by Kim Coates.[10][11] Badblood received positive reviews from critics and was said to be like Sons of Anarchy meets Narcos.[12]
Hicks starred alongside Dan Levy in the series finale of the international sensation, Schitt's Creek, which aired April 7, 2020.[13] His scene with Dan justified the appropriately named episode, "Happy Ending." It was a fan favourite episode and lauded as one of the series' best episodes ever by Vox's Constance Grady.[14] He also starred opposite Amber Marshall in the romantic comedy film Love In Harmony Valley in 2020.[15][16][17]
