Escapade, or ESP for short, is a server-side scripting language that is designed to provide a simplified interface to database contents. It was written in 1997 by Ed Carp.[citation needed]

Escapade is designed to create dynamic web pages from data. It can be used to generate HTML, XML, text, and other formats, as an alternative to ASP, and Perl or PHP CGI scripts.

Escapade was originally designed as a simple server-side scripting product that ran on non-Microsoft Windows platforms. It currently runs on the Unix and Linux operating systems. In support the MySQL database server. It is written in C, for portability to other platforms.
