Eska (stylized ESKA) is a Canadian brand of bottled water sourced from the Saint-Mathieu–Lac-Berry esker in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. The brand is owned by privately held Eska Inc., with corporate offices in Laval, Quebec, and a bottling plant in Saint-Mathieu-d'Harricana, Quebec.[1][2]
Source and production
Eska markets its water as naturally filtered through the St-Mathieu–Lac-Berry esker, a glacial formation said to be thousands of years old. Bottling takes place at the company's facility in Saint-Mathieu-d’Harricana, near the source.[3][1]
Company
The brand is produced by Eska Inc., a privately owned Canadian company headquartered in Laval, Quebec.[1][2]
In 2015, the Government of Quebec announced financial assistance to Eaux vives Water (an Eska-related corporate entity) to improve bottling operations and energy efficiency under the ÉcoPerformance program.[4]
Packaging and sustainability
Company communications state that Eska transitioned its natural spring water line to bottles made from 100% recycled plastic (rPET) in 2020–2021, with similar packaging changes for sparkling offerings thereafter.[5]
Independent testing
In 2018, a CBC Marketplace report on microplastics in bottled water tested several brands sold in Canada—including Eska—using an emerging methodology; the beverage industry association noted methodological limitations and called for standardized testing.[6][7]
