Founding of Kappa Alpha Psi[edit]

"Kappa Alpha Psi has been a great inspiration to me.... As a student during the first years of its existence, I can readily realize the important part it played in urging me forward to obtain a higher education that in turn molded my character and made of me a better citizen."

Ezra Dee Alexander, The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi[1]

In 1910, Alexander entered Indiana University. There he met Elder Watson Diggs and other men who, together on January 5, 1911, would establish the fraternity known as Kappa Alpha Psi. Although teaching, Alexander maintained interest in the fraternity throughout his time at Indiana University, and was a member of the first alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, the Chicago Alumni Chapter, established on April 6, 1919.[1]

Later life[edit]

Alexander graduated Indiana University in 1917 with his bachelor's degree, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University in 1919.[1] Thereafter, Alexander practiced medicine in Indianapolis and in 1920 married Mary Hunter, an Indianapolis public school teacher.[2] Beginning in 1950, Alexander served several terms as a member of the Grand Board of Directors of Kappa Alpha Psi until his death.[1][2]

Alexander died on September 29, 1971 at the Veteran's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.[1] He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.[1] Among those who attended his funeral were Founders Guy Levis Grant and Edward Giles Irvin.[1]
