Fabio Banegas is an Argentine-born American classical pianist, also a journalist.
Biography[edit]
Fabio Banegas was born in Rosario, Argentina of Czech[1] and Italian descent.
He is a son of Oscar Banegas, a school principal and professor and Patricia Josefa Banegas (neé Jiříček - Jiříčková) a business manager. His paternal grandfather, Natalio Cirilo Banegas was a famous Argentine jockey, steeplechase jockey, horse trainer and owner of thoroughbred horses, an emblematic figure in the horse racing history of Argentina.[2] Through his maternal Czech ancestors, he is a member of the Hejda from Lichnov lineage, a Bohemian noble family.
Fabio Banegas’ first piano teacher was Ms. Nora Irene Rasori. As a teenager, he studied with Argentine composer and conductor José Antonio Bottiroli. He earned academic degrees in music at the National University of Rosario (UNR) in Argentina and at California State University Fullerton (CSUF) in the United States. His piano teachers at the UNR were Professor Nelly Gabús[3] and Professor Ana María Cué.[4] At CSUF he studied under critically acclaimed pianist Dr. Susan Svrček.
As editor and publisher, Banegas published first editions of classical music scores for Golden River Music Publisher[5][6] and Euprint[7]
Apart from his music career, Fabio Banegas studied journalism at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He has worked as a bilingual newspaper writer for the Eastern Group Publications and in newscast journalism for Telemundo Channel 52 Los Angeles and in investigative journalism as a researcher for NBC Channel 4 Los Angeles. Fabio Banegas has been cast as a pianist in several Hollywood film and TV productions.
Repertoire[edit]
In addition to traditional piano repertoire, Fabio Banegas’ repertoire includes works by unknown and unjustly ignored composers, among them: José Antonio Bottiroli[8], Nicolás Alfredo Alessio[9], Eduardo Grau, Jacob Ficher and César Franck. Banegas is recognized as an expert in the piano music by José Antonio Bottiroli and Belgium French composer César Franck.[10][11][12][13]
Recordings[edit]
Fabio Banegas’ discography focuses mainly on world premiere of solo piano works and works for piano and orchestra. His recordings have been released by highly regarded international classical music labels, including: Grand Piano, the exclusive piano label of Naxos Records, Guild Music from the United Kingdom and Naxos Records.
In 2020 Grand Piano released Banegas’ world premiere and first commercial recording of works by Argentine master José Antonio Bottiroli: José Antonio Bottiroli – Complete Piano Works 1 “Waltzes”[14][15][16] followed in 2021 by José Antonio Bottiroli – Complete Piano Works 2 “Nocturnes” which includes the collaboration of stage, television and film actor Mr. George Takei[17][18] in the recitation of poems by Bottiroli.[19]
In 2022 the British label Guild Music released César Franck: Les Éolides – Les Djnns – Rédemption – Variations Symphoniques – Le Chausser Maudit, an album celebrating the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth in which Banegas interpreted two of Franck’s piano and orchestra concertos: Symphonic Poem Les Djinns for Piano and Orchestra and Symphonic Variations for Piano and Orchestra with the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine conducted by Argentine conductor Francisco Varela.[20][6] This was the last recording of the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra before the February 2022 Russian invasion.[21][22]. Praised by the classical music critics,[23] the recording was declared album of the month of October 2022 by German magazine Audio.[24]
ORF TV’s Catherine Hirschmann headed her review of Guild Music's César Franck's recording: Virtuosity and transcendence. The France of Ukraine.[25] In the Merker the International Cultural Platform[26] Dr. Ingobert Walternberge wrote:
"Orchestra, conductor and soloist offer incomparably gripping performances, full of contrasts, from romantically beautiful to strikingly drastic, exhausting the narrative content. In particular, Varela works out the finesse of the instrumentation in detail, without ever losing sight of the great upswings and architectural arcs of tension. To discover or to listen to again. Great!"
In 2022 Fabio Banegas recorded the world premiere of three concertos by Spanish-Argentine composer Eduardo Grau with Anima Musicæ Chamber Orchestra of Budapest, Hungary under Argentine conductor Francisco Varela.[27]
Previously, Fabio Banegas recorded The Czechs – Piano Works through the Centuries for Louis Ferdinand Productions, Argentine Piano Works – The Urban Masters for Thoth[28], a short-lived label and several live performances of traditional repertoire and César Franck’s late piano and chamber music works.

Fabio Banegas has appeared in recitals and concerts at international venues in the Americas and Europe and collaborated with renown artists.[29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40]
Film - Television - Print Modeling[edit]
Banegas had a brief stint in Hollywood where he performed in several film and television commercials. He was always cast as a pianist. In addition, he also worked as a print model appearing in catalogs, billboards and trade magazines, in one occasion posing opposite to actor Joe Manganiello.
