The Faculty of Law is one of India's oldest legal education institutions.[3] The Law faculty of the Lucknow University was established by Mr. Jag Mohan Nath Chak and and he was the first Dean of the Law Faculty.[4].

Initially, The Faculty was started in the premises of present day Faculty of Arts, University of Lucknow with just three teachers, later, in a significant development, it was shifted to New Law Building in the main Campus of University of Lucknow. However, In 2002, the faculty was separated from the main campus and relocated to a second Campus, which has a total area of more than 75 acres and is located at Jankipuram Extention, Lucknow.[6]
