FaktualNews.co is a website containing local news and online articles in Indonesia. FaktualNews.co is an online media with headquarters located in Jombang regency.[3] This news website was founded by Adi Susanto who also served as Chief Editor and CEO under the auspices of PT. SB Intermedia Pers.[4][5]
History
The FaktualNews.co website became accessible on November 6, 2016, but reached complete online capability on April 19, 2017, and was finally established as the company's birthday. Faktualnews.co was founded by Adi Susanto (former journalist at the Harian Bangsa newspaper). Initially, Faktualnews.co's major coverage focused on the local news of Jombang District.[4]
However, with development, faktualnews.co has become a local news portal for all regions in East Java Province covering current events, politics, lifestyle, and sports.
Controversy
On July 9, 2017, FaktualNews.co published a news article that reported on the romance of Sumenep Regent, Abuya Busyro Karim, with a beautiful woman, Nur Fitriana, his own wife.[6][7]
However, sympathizers who self-refer as the Gerakan Cinta Buya (GCB) considered the news to be a form of defamation and a violation of the Bill of Act on Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE) Law Number 11 Year 2008, and reported it to the Sumenep Resort Police.[8][9] The GCB Coordinator confessed, before filing the article, that he had applied for prior permission from A. Busyro Karim.[10] The GCB assessed that the news had degraded the image of Abuya Busyro Karim, as the most senior individual in Sumenep Regency who also has a Kyai background.[11][12]
Responding to the complaint, the chief editor of FaktualNews.co, Adi Susanto, expressed appreciation for the complaint process conducted by GCB. According to Adi, what needs to be considered in this case is Law Number 40 Year 1999 About Press as lex specialis, and whether there is a mechanism that regulates it. He argues this case is unlike a case under the ITE law; there is an equivalent criminal offense of a particular criminal act in the Criminal Code (KUHP). If defamation is done by distributing or transmitting articles electronically, then it is not a crime under the applicable KUHP, but a crime under the Law on ITE. Meanwhile, the Act on Press is not found in such circumstances as the Law on ITE.[13]
FaktualNews.co, represented by Adi Susanto, believes that the right to determine whether the news is outside the journalistic remit or not lies with the Press Council.[14]
Meanwhile, Regent Karim stated he knew nothing about the complaints made by the GCB to the Sumenep Resort Police.[10][15] While Nurfitriana, Busyro's wife, stated there was no problem related to the news about herself in the media.[16]
Increasing Site Traffic
In December 2016, faktualnews.co received 18,000 page views per month from about 4,000 unique users. Six months later, page views per month rose 20-fold, to an average of 13,000 page views per day or 416,000 page views per month with 145,000 users. In January 2018, that number rose again to 1,000,000 page views per month with the user base reaching 310,000. Finally, page views for faktualnews.co reached over 1.5 million per month.[17]
As of July 2018, daily page views for faktualnews.co reached 50,000 with 25,000 users.[18] As of July 2018, faktualnews.co occupied the 423rd highest position in the Alexa rank for all content in Indonesia.
