Fannie Leona Thomas (April 14, 1867 – January 22, 1981) was at the time of her death the oldest verified person ever. As the Shigechiyo Izumi case was later disproven, Thomas was in fact have been the world's oldest person when she died at 113 years and 283 days.[1]

She was a former suffragette,[clarification needed].[1]

In 1900, she opened a millinery store in Colorado Springs.[1]

In 1918 she moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, then to Los Angeles in the 1920s.[1]

She retired at the age of 98 after breaking her hip.

She became the oldest living person on April 25, 1978, upon the death of Marie-Virgine Duhem. On November 16, 1980, she became the oldest person ever, breaking the record held by Delina Filkins. Her record would later be surpassed, first by Mathew Beard, then by Augusta Holtz, then by Jeanne Calment, and if Tuti Yusupova's age proves valid, she will have been lost the record to her as well.

She died on January 22, 1981, of pneumonia.[2]
