Farzana Aslam (Wah Cantonment, Pakistan) is a physicist, astronomer, and women's advocate. She teaches mathematics, physics, and astronomy at Coventry University and has worked there since 2007.[1]

Farzana Aslam is recognized for having spoken about the place of women in science, especially concerning Pakistani women. She carries the idea that women are able to contribute to every profession in their society, while maintaining the values ​​of Islam, and can help to build a stronger and healthier society.[2][3]

Youth and Training[edit]

Farzana Aslan was born in Wah Cantt, Pakistan. There, she attended Wah Cantt Engineering College . She then transferred to the University of Punjab, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physics. Aslam then moved to Islamabad, where she attended Quaid-i-Azam University. She completed a master's degree in physics, and returned for a time to the University of the Punjab to teach physics.[2]

Farazana then moved to the United Kingdom to begin studies at the University of Manchester. In 2005, she obtained a PhD in Physics and Astronomy from the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Manchester. The same year, she joined the Photon Physics Group of the same school, where she specialized in two-photon physics  (in) and photonics.

Career[edit]

Aslam specializes in the study of polymer-metal compounds.[2] She currently works at Coventry University, where she serves as Associate Head of School.[1][4]

She is involved in the Ogden Teaching Fellowship's public program, aimed at raising awareness of science and engineering among UK public school children by connecting them with active scientists. As a result of her involvement, Aslam received an award at the Photon 04 conference held September 5-9, 2004 in Glasgow by the Institute of Physics.[2]
