The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi is a federal government-owned university located in Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.[1]

History[edit]

It was founded in 2021 driven by the federal government of Nigeria as one of the satellite higher institutions for the proposed National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Abuja. The National Institute of Technology is proposed to be a center for students drawn from all six satellite schools of the institute and beyond Nigeria who will contribute to technological research and innovations.[2][3]

The other satellite universities of technology established around the same time are located in Adamawa State, Akure, Owerri, Niger State and Jigawa state.[2]

The principal officers of the university were appointed by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration in February 2022.[4] Professor Leo Daniel was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Offiongita Nkang was appointed as the Registrar, Mr. Frasmus-Mbobo was appointed as the Bursar and Professor Philip U. Akor was appointed as the Librarian of the university.[3][5]

The school houses the following departments, Department of Computer Science, Department of Cyber Security, and Department of Library and Information Technology.

  • School of Engineering and Technology.

The school houses the following departments, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Department of Software Engineering.

  • School of Pure and Applied Science

The school houses the following departments, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Mathematics/Statistics, Department of Microbiology, and Department of Physics.[6][7]
