The Federated States of Gapla, commonly known as Gapla, is a micronation that claims to be a sovereign state formed by Wyatt Baek[1], styled as the "Crown Prince" of the micronation.[2] The self-declared state was founded becuase the founder believed that the government of the United States was unfair.[3]
Although it claims to be recognized by the signatories of the Montevideo Convention and other states,[3] it has no official international recognition by members of the United Nations.

Gapla was originally declared as a Principality: an absolute monarchy in which there would be a prince and nobles. However, after some conflicts arose inside the micronation, Gapla was reorganized as a constitutional monarchy, operating as a Presidential republic.[1]
In March 2020, Gapla was accepted into a micronational organization (the "Grand Unified Micronational"), with other micronations such as the Empire of Austenasia.[4] During the history of Gapla, the "citizens" improved the micronation: by creating accessories such as more states,[5] a website, and a browser extension. However, the extension was removed from the Chrome Web Store.[6]
The micronation was mentioned in other small micronations, such as the "United Republics of Antarctica"[7] and was featured in a video by a popular flag YouTuber, the Flag and Anthem Guy.[8]
Territory[edit]
Gapla primarily claims residences of its "citizens" as its territory.[1]
Although this is the primary claim, the micronation also claims land near lakes in Arizona, citing that after a government official sent a letter to the United States Forest Service office in Payson, Arizona, in which the letter stated that if they recieved no reply, it would be equivalent to a granting of the land to the "country." There was no reply, and the land was claimed. The Gaplan Government claims that the U.S. Forest Service must have read the letter, because it was deposited where important inquiries were posted.[1]
However, this claim is internationally ignored.
Funding[edit]
The micronation's creators earn a substantial amount of money through its online shop, selling souveniers and titles of nobility, a strategy used by other micronations such as the Principality of Sealand.
These funds were also used internally by Gapla to pay for flags, web hosting, crowns, and other "upgrades".[9]
The micronation also has its own currency, the Gapla Dollar, which it claims is used as a recognized medium of exchange inside the micronation.[10]
