Federico Guglielmo (born 9 July 1968) is an Italian violinist and conductor. He has a wide repertoire ranging from Biagio Marini to Felix Mendelssohn using period instruments, and is especially known for his interpretations of Baroque composers such as Antonio Vivaldi[1] and Giuseppe Tartini,[2] having recorded all their printed works and complete concertos for violin, respectively.
As a violinist and conductor, he pays particular attention to the restoration of lesser-known works of the classical-romantic period, as well as 20th-century neoclassical[3] and neobaroque[4] compositions.
Biography
Born in Padua in 1968, Federico Guglielmo started to study the violin under his father’s guidance. Aged 18, he graduated from the Benedetto Marcello Music Conservatory in Venice, in the same class as Giuliano Carmignola. He then studied under Salvatore Accardo for four years at the Stauffer Center for Strings in Cremona, and subsequently took master classes with Ștefan Gheorghiu, Vladimir Spivakov and Isaac Stern, and played chamber music with the Beaux Arts Trio, the Trieste Trio, members of the Amadeus Quartet, the Quartetto Italiano and the LaSalle Quartet.
At 22, he won first prize at the Vittorio Gui International Chamber Music Competition in Florence in 1984, which launched his international career. In the same year, he became the youngest professor in an Italian conservatory after winning a national professorship competition. Since then, he has taught at the conservatories in Foggia and Florence, and is currently the chair of ensemble music for strings at the Francesco Venezze Conservatory in Rovigo, where he also teaches the violin and baroque violin.
As a soloist and director, he gives concerts all over the world, and has played with orchestras such as the Academy of Ancient Music, the Handel and Haydn Society and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.
