Mauro Iurato (22 January 1977–) is an Italian violinist and academic teacher.
Biography
Iurato was born in Torino, Italy.
In 1981, he started his musical career. He started to learn piano at the age of 4, and violin at the age of 9 under Professor Elena Guizzardi, his first educator. He has won several prizes as best violin player in his age group. He also achieved great results in academic studies.
In 1992, he was admitted into Milan Conservatory and studied with Massimo Marin. He graduated with highest honors in 5 years.
In 1997, he graduated from Milan Conservatory in only 5 years. After his graduation, he was offered a scholarship from Music Association “De Sono” and learned from famous players such as Franco Gulli, Corrado Romano and Salvatore Accardo.
In 1998, he was admitted into the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna(MDW). Then he met Professor Michael Frischenschlager and perfected his performing until May 2003. He also won prizes in several national and international competitions during those years. His prodigious records brought him outside of Italy. He also performed throughout Europe, Canada, USA and Japan. As a soloist, he has performed with great orchestras such as the Zagreb Soloists, the Iași "Moldova" Philharmonic Orchestra and the Korean Chamber Orchestra. In that year, he also assembled a duo named “UniDuo” with Giuseppe Mariotti. "UniDuo" has been performing successful concerts in Italy, Austria, and Japan.
In 1999, he was selected as the concertmaster of the Ensemble Salieri Wien. This orchestra released two Oratorios under the label “Fonè” in 2000.
In 2002, he formed WTV (Wien-Turin Virtuosi) International Chamber Orchestra with the collaboration of the Vienna University of Music and Dramatic Arts, the University of Turin and the Turin Music Society “La Nuova Arca”. WTV performed concerts in famous music festivals all over the world, such as the “Cervo International Chamber Music Festival” in Italy, the “Orford Festival” in Canada, the “Neues Künstlerforum Wien”. It met with success from critics and audiences at every concert.
He visited Japan giving a concert tour as the honored student of MDW. This was his first career in Japan, which he loves and continues to this day.
In 2003, he was appointed as a Guest Professor of Violin at Tokushima Bunri University. He gave lessons at the school until 2009.
In Japan, he held important positions in several Japanese orchestras. He was appointed as the Solo Concertmaster of the Ensemble Kobe from 2006 to 2016, as Guest Concertmaster of the “Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra” from 2007 to 2010, as the director of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra from 2007 to 2009, and as the guest Concertmaster of the “Tokyo Symphony Orchestra”, the HPAC (Hyogo Performing Arts Center) Orchestra, and the “Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa”. He also performed in several live broadcasts on national radio and TV programs.
In 2011, he established a music project for music education in Kobe city, called “Harmonia Kobe”.
In 2013, he founded a violin School, designed to create a vital, cross-generational music-making environment and to give highly qualified lessons for talented young players.
In 2015, he gave a speech on TEDxYouth@Kobe. In the same year, he also collaborated with Yuzu, a famous Japanese pop duo.
Currently he is serving as Professor of Violin at the Osaka Soai University and as Lecturer of Violin at the Music Department of the Hyogo Prefectural Nishinomiya High School (Kobe).
He regularly gives Master-classes in Europe as well as in Japan and he holds the position of Ordinary Professor at the “Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg”. He also gave a master class and concert at Mcgill University in 2016
In 2019, he was given the Kobe Art Award for his contribution to Japanese society through artistic and educational activities.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he eagerly joined several projects of Kobe city and performed to encourage people to stay home.

Mauro Iurato owns a Gioffredo Cappa “Colla Della Chiesa” dated 1690 (and once belonged to the greatest violinist Gaetano Pugnani) and a custom-made bow by G. Lucchi.
