Federico Pizzurro

Federico Pizzurro (June 26, 1932 - June 23, 2016), also known as Fred Pizzurro, was an Italian-born American artist and designer.

Early life and education[edit]

Pizzurro was born in Balestrate, Sicily to Michele and Angelina Pizzurro. He was educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo. In 1949 he came to the United States and attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Detroit, Michigan (now the College for Creative Studies).[1]

Career[edit]

Pizzurro was employed by the Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park, Michigan for 37 years as an automotive designer and industrial sculptor. After retiring in 1980 he moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he embarked on a career as a painter and sculptor.[2] His work was featured in a number of shows in and around Lexington including solo shows at the Living Arts and Science Center in 1994 and the Lexington Art League in 2004 and numerous group shows.[3][4][5] His work was exhibited at the University of Kentucky Art Museum in 2015,[6] and is included in the permanent collection of the Gateway Regional Art Center in Mount Sterling, Kentucky.
