Felicita Ovadje is a Nigerian-born lawyer and entrepreneur who immigrated to Winnipeg in 2008 as a student before opening up her own business, Felicheeta Artistry.[1] When she first came to Canada, she was part of an immigration settlement organization, which was a drop-in center for women. Ovadje briefly attended beauty school, then began freelancing as a makeup artist on the side as her law career progressed and now, she owns Felicheeta Artistry which is a cosmetic brand specifically for Black, brown, and caucasian skin tones.
Ovadje realized the lack of representation of African beauty entrepreneurs at the mainstream malls and shopping centers. This sparked the initiative to launch the Felicheeta Artistry retail store with the idea to change the narrative for Black women and girls moving toward business ownership that reflects the growing 2.4% Black population of Manitoba.[2] Ovadje was recently featured by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce as an inspiring story for women in Winnipeg.[3]
