Fetchr is an international express, mail delivery and logistics services company, operating an app-based on-demand delivery service model based in Dubai.[1]

Fetchr allows both the community and businesses to send or receive anything, anywhere, in the Middle East. E-commerce retailers can set up a scheduled delivery by simply using a customer’s mobile phone’s GPS co-ordinates, thereby aiming to consistently deliver to the correct location. It also allows individuals to set up a scheduled pick-up of an item they want to ship, through the Fetchr phone app. [2]

As of July 2015, Fetchr is operational in 4 countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt & Bahrain) [3] and over 30 cities across the MENA region with plans to develop other services and products, and expand operations into additional countries in the region in the near future.[4]

Origins[edit]

Fetchr started operating in November of 2012. It was founded by Idriss Al Rifai in September of 2012 who was later joined by Joy Ajlouny in September of 2014. [5] The pair met while Al Rifai was pitching to VCs in Silicon Valley.[6]

Idriss Al Rifai is an entrepreneur who previously worked as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group.[7] Co-founder Joy Ajlouny is a serial entrepreneur whose first startup in Silicon Valley, BONFAIRE, was acquired by Moda Operandi. [8]

Fetchr was established with the mutual passion to disrupt the Middle East retail market with technology and customer-centric services that enable the growth of e-commerce in the region. [9]

Investment[edit]

Fetchr was able to secure funding 52 million U.S. Dollars to date [10] with a starting series A funding of 11 million U.S. Dollars in a round led by New Enterprise Associates in 2015 -- the largest US based venture funds investment in the Middle East for a Series A round. [11] This was followed a few months later with an undisclosed amount led by Mobily Ventures. In 2016, Fetchr raised 41 million U.S. Dollars.
