FilmQuest
FilmQuest is an award-winning genre film festival in the United States that was founded by filmmaker Jonathan Martin in 2014. The festival runs for nine days each September and is hosted in Downtown Provo, Utah at Velour Live Music Gallery. The festival has become recognized as one of the largest genre film festivals in the United States, screening nearly 200 films while also hosting a screenplay competition annually. It has also become known as the home for the coveted FilmQuest Cthulhu Trophy, an award handed out annually to winners of the festival that honors the very best of independent genre cinema.
FilmQuest celebrates the achievements of science fiction, fantasy, and horror filmmakers from American and international independent cinema. Other genres featured at FilmQuest includes action, adventure, western, steampunk, cyberpunk, comedy, thriller, sword & sorcery, mystery & noir, grindhouse, the fantastic, and the beyond. Student films, web series/new media, and music videos are also screened at the festival.
FilmQuest has received praise from filmmakers, publications, and organizations from around the world. It has been recognized by MovieMaker Magazine as a "Top 30 Bloody Best Genre Fests in the World" (2019)[1], and twice as one of their "Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" (2015 & 2017)[2][3]. It has also been named as Utah's "Best of State" Film Festival twice (2018 & 2019)[4][5], while also being reviewed by filmmakers as one of FilmFreeway's "Top 100 Best Reviewed Film Festivals."[6]
