Firefly Communications is a European-based public relations consultancy founded in 1988.[1] The company operates three offices in three countries across Europe and employs approximately 25 people.

History[edit]

The company was founded by Claire Walker in 1988. The company's first clients included Oracle and Dell. In 1997, Firefly helped launch BBC News Online [2] and launched the Lastminute.com website in 1998.

In 2000, Firefly helped 3M celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Post-it note with Miniature Masterpieces, which was nominated for the 2001 "Best Corporate Branding" award by PR Week.[3]

In 2001, Firefly worked with Yell.com, Compaq and dotmusic.[4][5]

In 2009, Dragon's Den venture-capitalist James Caan began working with Firefly to "target print, broadcast and online media [to] raise Caan's profile".[6] The agreement also covers Caan's private equity firm, Hamilton Bradshaw.

In 2010, one of Firefly's most substantial clients, LG Electronics,[7] ended their contract when the decision was made to consolidate their company's global PR.[8]

In 2012, the company's managing director Mark Mellor died, aged 49, following a two year battle with cancer.[9]

European offices[edit]

Firefly's three offices opened in the following years:

  • London – 1988
  • France – 2000
  • Germany – 2001

Awards[edit]

The business was included in The Sunday Times's Best 100 Companies list in 2004 and 2005, placing 13th[10] and 79th[11] respectively. In 2000, the business won PRWeek's Consultancy of the Year award.[10]
