Merrithew is a privately held Canadian company that develops and distributes Pilates-based exercise education programs and equipment [1]. Founded in 1988, the company has grown from a small Pilates studio in Toronto run by founders Moira and Lindsay Merrithew to a global leader in mind-body exercise.

More than 65,000 instructors in 100 countries are certified to teach Merrithew’s seven trademarked fitness modalities. They include Stott Pilates[2], Zenga, Total Barre, Halo Training, Merrithew Fascial Movement and Core Athletic Conditioning and Performance Training. Their workouts are designed for everyone from avid exercisers, elite athletes, and pre/postnatal clients [3], to rehab and fitness professionals.

In 2020, the company also launched Merrithew Connect, a digital streaming platform featuring Pilates, fitness and mind-body workouts and training.

In addition to exercise programming, Merrithew [4] designs, manufactures and distributes an extensive line of best-in-class Pilates equipment [5] as well as professional and at-home Pilates reformers and fitness accessories[6].

Fitness and health professionals esteem the Merrithew brand for its quality. While its programming incorporates the latest in exercise science, health and fitness practices, its equipment is so expertly crafted that it’s as common to see it in a fitness studio [7] as in a professional sports training facility or rehabilitation centre. With the growing popularity of at-home fitness during the Covid-19 pandemic, demand for Pilates reformers [8] increased with many consumers opting to recreate a boutique Pilates studio experience at home.

History[edit]

In 1988, Lindsay and Moira Merrithew opened their first Pilates studio in Toronto, Canada Recognizing a growing market demand for Pilates and a scarcity of suppliers, Lindsay, President and CEO, focused on building and diversifying the business. Together, they realized the benefits of Pilates could help people of all ages and abilities so set out to make it available to a wider audience.
