Firka is a 2D animation software[1] for pencil test, stop motion and digital compositing. It is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and (for debugging) Amiga.[2]
History
The development of Firka began in 1996 by László Fazekas at Firkafilm animation studio. He is still the sole author of the software. The word firka [ˈfirkɒ] means "scribbles" in Hungarian. One of the first animated series that used Firka for pencil test was Kipper at Varga Studio (between 1997 and 1999). In subsequent years, new features were added, including palettes and camera movements. The first film that used this software for painting and compositing was Little Red Riding Hood's World (directed by István Heim) in 2001. Although pencil tests have become less important recently, development continues today, focusing on compositing and stop motion.
