Flag of the municipality Goes

The flag of Goes is flown as the flag of the Zeelandic Municipality Goes. The flag is several hundreds of years old, but was only confirmed officially on 15 April 1964. The flag consists of thirteen horizontal stripes in the colours red and white. The origin of the flag is unclear, but the colours red and white have been in use as city colours since time immemorial, having been mentioned in writing as early as the 15th century. The flag was described and pictured for the first time in The New Chronicles of Zeeland (1700) by Mattheus Smallegange.

After a municipal reorganisation in 1970 which added a few municipalities to Goes, the flag was reconfirmed on 15 May 1970 in unaltered form.

  • "De vlag van Goes" (in Nederlands). Municipality of Goes.
