In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the flind is a type of humanoid creature, related to a gnoll.
Publication history[edit]
The flind was introduced in the original first edition Fiend Folio (1981).[1]
The flind appears for second edition in the Monstrous Compendium Volume One (1989),[2] and is reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[3] The flind is also detailed in Dragon #173 (September 1991), in "The Sociology of the Flind," a variation on the "Ecology of..." column.[4]
The flind is detailed as a playable character race in The Complete Book of Humanoids (1993).[5] The flind is later presented as a playable character race again in Player's Option: Skills & Powers (1995).[6]
The flind appears in Monster Manual III (2004) as a monster and a playable character race.[7]
The flind appears in Volo's Guide to Monsters (2016) as a variety of gnoll.[8]
Description[edit]
A flind is shorter, broader, and stronger than other gnolls;[7] flinds are often found leading a tribe or settlement of gnolls.[7] Flinds use a nunchaku-like weapon called a flindbar, which consists of a pair of metal rods linked together by a chain.[7]
Other publishers[edit]
The flind appeared in the Tome of Horrors (2002) from Necromancer Games.[9]
