Flirtini is an online dating app.
In August 2023, digitaltrends.com added Flirtini to the TOP The best dating apps in 2023[1].
In August 2024, datingnews.com added Flirtini to the TOP-10 Best AI Integrated Dating Tools of 2024[2].
History[edit]
The application appeared in December 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, as a response to the request of users who want to make up for lost time during the Pandemic[3].
One of the app's key features was the expiring matches and chats, where users had only 15 minutes to initiate a conversation with their match[4]. If the conversation wasn't started within that time frame, the match would expire and be lost permanently.
In November 2022, a survey of Flirtini's female user base revealed that a significant portion of users were exposed to unwanted spam, with 69.86% of women reporting they had received unsolicited texts or images of a sexual nature, and 77.8% of those respondents specifically noting they had received images of male genitals[5]. In response to this issue, Flirtini introduced a feature called "C*ckblock," which utilizes artificial intelligence and neural network technology to detect sexually explicit images and prevent them from being shared on the platform.
AI Assistant Fliry[edit]
In June 2023, the app introduced its AI assistant Fliry, which is based on ChatGPT and helps facilitate communication, allowing users to be less nervous at the first stages of dating and flirt more. [6]
The total number of user chats increased by 8.81%, while the number of first messages sent rose by 19%. Additionally, users experienced a 7.38% increase in profile views, a 12.10% rise in profile likes, and an overall increase of 4.84% in matches across the platform[7]. After adopting AI features, Flirtini’s users saw a 15% increase in first-message replies overall[8].
3 Functions of a Personal AI-Assistant
- Chat with Fliry: The AI-Asistant is available for chat 24/7 and can give advice or simply maintain a conversation.
- Profile Description Generator: the tool helps to create an attractive profile description using AI algorithms and data that the user filled in during registration (gender, city, interests).
- Icebreaker Generator: generates unique first messages for each chat based on sender and recipient questionnaires.[9]
On June 26, the app reported that they had over 1 million downloads of their apps[10].
Sober October[edit]
In October 2023, the Flirtini App participated in the Ocsober initiative, encouraging users to connect through a broader range of interests beyond alcohol. During this period, the "wine" interest was temporarily disabled within the app. Users were unable to select "wine" as an interest, it was deactivated in their profiles, and it no longer appeared as a shared interest among users who had previously selected it.[11]
Beauty Filters[edit]
The app offers free photo enhancement functionality right in the app, without wasting time switching between other apps for enhancement. The feature is inclusive and available to users of all genders.
Hooks[edit]
In December 2023, the app released the “Hook” feature[12], which works similar to a super like and helps users stand out. The “hook” feature boosts a user’s message to the top of their match’s chat list, increasing the likelihood of a response.
Operation[edit]
Upon signing up for Flirtini, users are required to input their preferences, which shape their recommendation feed. These preferences include the desired age range and distance for potential matches, allowing for more tailored suggestions based on geographic proximity and age compatibility.
Flirtini also offers users the ability to view essential details about others, such as their dating goals, which helps to ensure that both parties are aligned in terms of what they are seeking in a relationship. Additional profile information includes details on religion, pet ownership, and interests, providing users with a comprehensive view of potential matches. This approach fosters more meaningful connections by enabling users to find compatibility based on shared values and lifestyles.
Flirtini incorporates gesture verification features as part of its sign-up process. This security measure requires users to complete specific gestures to verify their identity, enhancing the app's safety and authenticity. The gesture verification helps ensure that profiles are managed by real people, minimizing the presence of bots and fake accounts on the platform. By implementing this feature, Flirtini aims to create a more trustworthy and secure environment for its users, prioritizing genuine interactions and connections.
In-app purchases[edit]
Flirtini is available for free download, with access to premium features starting at $4.99, with pricing varying by location[2].
The Flirtini app offers two subscription tiers: Premium and Ultra. The Premium subscription includes features such as unlimited chats, extra free hooks, access to top stories, a verified profiles filter, media message unlocking, the ability to see who liked you, and premium search filters.
The Ultra subscription encompasses all the features of the Premium tier and additionally provides access to AI-powered features, including chat with an AI assistant, AI-based profile descriptions, and AI-generated icebreakers.
Safety[edit]
Flirtini utilizes advanced AI moderation tools to identify and remove scam profiles from the platform. These tools analyze user profiles for suspicious activity and behavior patterns commonly associated with fraudulent accounts. By leveraging artificial intelligence, Flirtini is able to swiftly detect and eliminate such profiles, ensuring a safer user experience.
The app's AI algorithms assess various profile attributes and communication patterns to identify irregularities typical of fake accounts. These algorithms are designed to continuously learn and adapt, allowing the system to proactively detect fake profiles before they engage with legitimate users.
In addition, Flirtini has implemented AI tools to monitor and manage photo content. These tools automatically detect unwanted or inappropriate content, such as explicit images, and blur the images to protect users from exposure to such material. This feature enhances the safety and comfort of the platform, providing users with a secure browsing experience.
Flirtini also encourages users to report suspected catfish profiles through a structured feedback system. When users identify and report suspicious accounts, they are rewarded with in-app coins, incentivizing active participation in maintaining community safety and ensuring that fraudulent profiles are quickly addressed.[13]
Research[edit]
The app frequently conducts research on its audience, presenting findings based on user data.
- December 2022 — Dating Trend 'Winter Coating' Research: According to survey, the top relationship stressors during the holiday season included the pressure to invite people they are dating to family holiday gatherings (50.6%), feeling rushed to commit (45.9%), and gift-giving anxiety (40.4%).[14] The survey also revealed that 75% of online daters have experienced a relationship ending during the holiday season. This topic was discussed[15] on CBS Morning.
- October 2023 — Drinking Habits and First Date Anxiety: A Survey on Alcohol Consumption in Dating. Survey conducted by Flirtini found that 64% of adults drink alcohol before a date at least occasionally to alleviate anxiety, with 65% of those drinking during the date to feel more confident. However, the study also highlights the importance of moderation, as 28% of respondents reported that they had left a date due to their partner’s excessive drinking, and 24% would stop dating someone if they got drunk on the first date. - February 2024 — Gender Stereotypes in Modern Dating: A Survey of Male Perspectives Across Generations. Flirtini's survey of 2,000 men from Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X revealed that while gender stereotypes still exist, many traditional views are becoming less relevant in modern dating. For example, 80% of men were open to dating women who weren’t considered "petite," and 54% expressed no concerns about women making the first sexual advance. However, certain stereotypes persist, with 21% of men stating they would not date a woman who couldn't cook[24]. - June 2024 — The Influence of TikTok on Dating Advice. Almost 50% of people turn to TikTok for dating advice[32], with 25% relying on the platform as their primary source of relationship guidance. However, 73% of respondents believe that much of the content is shaped by social media trends rather than sound relationship principles, and 46% have experienced relationship struggles after following such advice, with 23% reporting a breakup as a result[33]. Despite these concerns, 30% of respondents found that TikTok's advice helped strengthen their relationships.
- July 2024 — Age Gap Research. The Flirtini team collected data on 1 million anonymous ‘likes’ from their users to see what they say about age gaps in relationships. Boomers overwhelmingly favor younger partners, with 95% of their likes going to profiles at least 10 years younger.
- September 2024 — The Influence of Political Views on Romantic Relationships. The survey highlights the increasing significance of political alignment in dating decisions.
