Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus is an American LGBT rights organization. It represents the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community in Florida. One of its main goals is to represent the LGBTQ+ voice within the Democratic Party, as it is closely affiliated with the Florida Democratic Party. There are currently 21 local chapters across Florida.[1]

Political activity[edit]

During the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries, the caucus conducted a straw poll of its members. The results showed that Joe Biden, the eventual nominee, won with 26 votes. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren each received two votes, while Pete Buttigieg, the first major openly gay presidential candidate, only received one.[2]

Their 2020 winter conference took place in Orlando, Florida. Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon was in attendance at the event.[3]

In its September 2020 conference, former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg was the caucus’s keynote speaker.[3]

In the 2020 presidential election, the caucus endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, who later won the race.[4]
