Lavender Greens
The National Lavender Greens Caucus (NLGC) is an advocacy group on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) issues and is an officially accredited (recognized) Identity Caucus of the Green Party of the United States.
Mission[edit]
NLGC works for the elimination of heterosexism and all its manifestations such as homophobia, violence, prejudice and injustice against LGBTQIA communities. NLGC also works for the elimination of racism and sexism and all their manifestations in LGBTQIA communities and in society as a whole.
In 2016, the chair of its steering committee said "The Green Party may have a history of being ahead of the curve, but this fight against oppression is not over. We may be the only current national-level political party that will advocate most or even some of these policies, but for me — and I’d guess for many friends and comrades in the Lavender Caucus — that only raises the moral imperative to continually challenge ourselves and our party in advancing queer issues and queer voices in the streets, on the campaign trail, and in elected office."[1]
Perspective[edit]
Their work is centered in the Ten Key Values and the Four Pillars of the Green Party (statements of core principles held in common by Green party organizations and individuals worldwide). It is the view of the NLGC that freedom and social justice for LGBTQIA individuals will only come with the liberation of all people, and they actively view themselves as part of the broader movement for social justice in the United States and worldwide.
Organization[edit]
State and local chapters exist across the country, and members have served in elected office. Green Party members may join the National Lavender Greens Caucus by visiting their web site and filling out a membership form.
The initial elected chair was Brandon Lacy Campos.
