Folk Uke is an American duo of folk music, combining singing with guitar and ukulele. Their music is marked by a soft background music contrasting with sataric, humouristic lyrics.
History of the band[edit]
Cathy Guthrie and Amy Nelson met in San Diego, California, in a bar they both worked in.[2][3] The band was created around the year 2000.[4]
Most of the time, Amy Nelson plays the guitar and Cathy Guthrie plays the ukulele while they both sing.[5]
Cathy Guthrie is Arlo Guthrie's daughter and Amy Nelson is the daughter of Willie Nelson.[6][7][8] Both their fathers have been making appearances on their albums from time to time.[9]
Songs from their self-titled album have graced the screen four times since they were recorded in 2005. "Motherfucker Got Fucked Up", (Cathy Guthrie/Amy Nelson), has been included the film Indie Jonesing (2012), in Snoop Dogg's G7 (2015) and in the season four premiere of Orange is the New Black (2016)
"Knock Me Up", (Cathy Guthrie/ Amy Nelson/ Lana Nelson) was featured in Jay Chandrasekhar's The Babymakers (2012)
