"Follow Me" is a song by Brazilian drag queen and singer Pabllo Vittar and Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama. It was released on April 1, 2022 by Mataderos and Sony Music in Brazil and by Dirty Hit internationally. The song was written and composed by Ed Drewett, Maria Hazell and Peter Rycroft, also known as Lostboy. It was co-produced by Lostboy and Brabo, a Brazilian music production collective who has worked with Vittar multiple times in the past. It is Vittar's second song to be sung entirely in English, following on from "Flash Pose" with Charli XCX in 2019.[citation needed] The song blends elements of funk carioca, EDM and dance-pop.

Background[edit]

The song was originally planned to be a collaboration with British girl group Little Mix.[citation needed]

"Follow Me" made its' live debut during Vittar's performance at Lollapalooza Brazil on March 25, 2022, where he performed a shortened version of the song and announced that it was a collaboration with Sawayama.[1]

In an official press release, Sawayama described Vittar as "nothing short of an icon" and briefly spoke about how she got to work with him: "For us to collaborate on an original, I wanted a moment that felt fitting. When [he] sent me the idea for "Follow Me", I was just in love with it immediately and the process from then has been a dream."[2]

Composition[edit]

The song is at a tempo of 130 beats per minute and is primarily in the key of F minor. The song's lyrics describe a woman telling her male partner that dancing is the best way to free herself from feeling broken down, and asks him to dance with her. The chorus also name-drops British model Naomi Campbell.

Music video[edit]

The music video was uploaded onto Vittar's YouTube account on April 1, 2022, the same day that the song was released worldwide. The video was directed by Amber Park, who had previously directed videos for Sabrina Carpenter, Madison Beer and David Guetta. Choreography for the video was handled by Brazillian choreographer Flavio Verne. Lauren Kessler served as the video's creative director and Brent Assayag served as its' main producer. The video features Vittar and Sawayama both surrounded by and dancing with a group of backing dancers. The opening of the video features an appearance by Amazon Alexa, in which Vittar tells her to play the song. The video currently has 2.4 million views as of April 8, 2022.
