Cooking is one of the finest arts available on the planet, it's said. And over the last decade, the culinary landscape of cities all over the world has been transformed by a new kind of street food purveyor: gourmet food trucks.
Food Truck Chef[1] — a 2017 casual free-to-play restaurant simulation video game developed and published by Nukebox Studios[2]. The free-to-download game is available on Facebook, iOS, Android, and Windows with options for in-app purchases.
Plot
Food Truck Chef is a fun and addictive time management cooking game that takes players on the ultimate food truck adventure. In this fast-paced and exciting cooking game, as a chef, players get behind the wheels and travel around the world serving delicious food to their varied customers and expanding their food truck empire. Players use a variety of ingredients to cook tons of mouth-watering recipes, upgrade their kitchen appliances to cook meals faster, and deck out their trucks with cool features to appeal to the teeming customers. With hundreds of tasty foods and levels to discover, there’s a dash of challenge in every dish. From the al dente pasta of Italy, petite oven bakes of Paris, rich chocolate pies of America, peppy brews of London, to the hand-made onigiri delights, hot bowls of ramen, dumplings and dim sums, and tacos for the road, there are no limits to what players can dream up, cook up and serve up.
The latest game update brought an all-new exotic location: Tandoor Street where players get to cook the very popular Indian cuisine — Tandoori.
In addition, there are numerous Daily Quests and weekly in-game events, including Carnival Challenges, Super Chef, and Star Hauls, which allow players to battle it out against other food truck chefs and earn tons of in-game rewards like gems and coins!
Gameplay
The fundamental game mechanic revolves around serving dishes to the customers within the allocated amount of time. To level up, players need to complete certain goals. For example, completing levels help in unlocking new locations and cuisines from those particular locations. Each location comprises 40 levels and if players can crack them with a 3-star rating, they earn more rewards (gems and coins). In the event, they’re not able to get all 3-stars in the first go, they can revisit the location and try again (this while a new location has already been unlocked on completing the 40th level).

Customization
Inside the game, players can upgrade their kitchen equipment to serve more customers faster, with additional dressings and tastier ingredients. Outside of the main gameplay, players can customize the exteriors of their food trucks to make for a better ambiance for their customers and a dream food truck experience. The upgrades include furniture, decorations, menu boards, book racks, and more!
In-game events
Daily Quests: are activated for players when they complete level 10 in the first location — Pasta street. Daily quests are displayed with the missions & achievements and players get gem rewards for completing a Quest. Players also get milestone gem rewards when they complete 20 Quests!
Apart from the Daily Quests, which varies every day, there are mainly three weekly in-game events: Carnival Challenge, Super Chef, and Star Haul.
Carnival Challenge: The oldest event on Food Truck Chef, this starts every Thursday and ends every Monday. Triggered on any one of the Streets that players have not played before (from unlocked locations), the Challenge gives players the opportunity to compete against other Food Truck Chefs and earn rewards
Star Haul: As the name suggests, this event rewards players for collecting stars when they play the regular levels in any location. Players can play new levels or complete older levels to collect the stars to reach the milestones assigned and win rewards during the event period that runs every Monday and ends on Thursdays.
Super Chef: This event gives players an opportunity to play a different game mode. Players need to collect 'likes' instead of coins in this event. The event starts every Saturday and ends on Tuesday. Players can play this event even in unlocked cities and achieve the assigned milestones and collect the rewards.
Development
The game was developed by Nukebox Studios, which is amongst the top-grossing mobile game developers in India. They build original free-to-play IPs for the global audience. Nukebox had earlier released Spongebob: Krusty Cook-Off as its second title in partnership with Tilting Point and Nickelodeon and it reached the top charts within 5 days of launch and has had 17 million pre-registrations before launch. Spongebob Krusty Cook-Off was voted the Users Choice Game of 2020 in the US and was awarded as one of the best casual games in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, MENA, India, Mexico, Brazil, and the rest of Latin America.
Reception
The same year as its launch, Food Truck Chef won the ‘Best of 2017’ and ‘Awesome Game Made In India’ by the Google Play store.

It has been in the top 100 grossing charts globally since its launch, with a current download of over 30M on Android & iOS combined.
In the year 2020, Food Truck Chef organized a unique event for all its chef players and welcomed renowned celebrity pastry Chef Duff Goldman for an exclusive 90-day baking fiesta — ‘Duff’s Challenge[4]’.
The year 2020 also saw Nukebox Studios partnering with Tamatem Games to provide its flagship game to MENA countries.
