The Forum for IT Employees (FITE)[1] is an Information technology sector employees union in India. It is an I.T / I.T.E.S / B.P.O / K.P.O/ Telecom employees welfare union and not affiliated to any political party, it's head office is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and has chapters in Maharashtra[2] and Karnataka[3]. The Forum was launched in Chennai on 29 Dec 2014 when Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was terminating[4] thousands of its employees. During May 2017, Forum for IT Employees (FITE) also actively worked to support affected[5] Cognizant employees based in its major locations including [Chennai][6] and Bengaluru[7]. FITE has taken up this issue with the Department of Labour and Employment (Tamil Nadu) and alleged that Cognizant[8] has been forcing employees to resign. The petition submitted by FITE to the state Labour Commissioner requested intervention into the employee terminations happened in Cognizant.

Tamil Nadu Chapter[edit]

FITE Tamil Nadu chapter based in Chennai is actively working for the welfare and rights of employees working in Information Technology companies in Tamil Nadu. During layoffs in Tata Consultancy Services[9] and Cognizant[10] many employees approached FITE for legal support. FITE representatives filed petitions behalf of the layoff victims in the Chennai Labour Commissioner's office seeking their intervention[11] to secure employees rights.

Maharashtra Chapter[edit]

In December 2017, Maharashtra chapter of the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) based in Pune has become officially registered trade union[12] for the IT sector in India.The newly formed trade union received registration number PN4845[13] under the Trade Unions Act[14], 1926.

Karnataka Chapter[edit]

June 2017, Karnataka chapter FITE representatives met with the Karnataka Labour Commissioner during the layoffs in Tech Mahindra and Wipro[15] Bengaluru location. FITE also submitted two petitions behalf of four employees affected by Tech Mahindra[16] layoff.

On 3rd August 2018, FITE Karnataka chapter representatives met[17] with the researchers from International Labour Organization (ILO)[18] at Adarsh Hamilton in Bangalore. A team of researchers from ILO has invited Forum for IT Employees – FITE to discuss about “The Future of Work in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)” as part of their research work.
