Frainy Bomanji

Lady Frainy Dhunjibhoy Bomanji (14 September 1893 - 1986) [1] unofficially known as "Lady Harrogate"[2] (after the location of her husband's country estate), was the wife of Sir Dhunjibhoy Bomanji a shipping magnate and philanthropist.[3][4] She was born in Poona (now Pune) to a Parsi family and moved to Britain after marriage. She was well known in aristocrat social circles and friends to few members of the Royal family.[5][6] She received the Honorary Freemanship of the Borough in 1984 for her service and generosity to Harrogate.[7][8] Lady Frainy Dhunjibhoy Bomanji died in 1986, North Yorkshire, England.[9]

20th century statue 'La Douche' Sculpted by Charles Raphael Peyre, that bequest was made in honour of Mrs Mehroo Jehangir the daughter of the late Sir Dhunjibhoy and his wife Lady Frainy Bomanji all great Harrogate benefactors.[8][7]

She founded The Friends Of The Festival and was its president (1971-1973).[10][11][12]

Trevor Stubley's portrait of Lady Bomanji is held by Sheffield City Art Gallery.[13][14]
