Dr. Francesco Segreto (born May 26, 1987, in Villaricca, Naples) is an Italian plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgeon known for his contributions to regenerative medicine and cosmetic surgery innovations. He earned his medical degree from Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and later obtained a PhD in Aging and Tissue Regeneration Sciences. Segreto has performed over 5,000 surgeries and authored more than 60 scientific publications. He has worked internationally, including at Harvard Medical School, and has received multiple awards, including the European Award in Medicine. His research focuses on improving surgical outcomes and reducing postoperative complications through advanced techniques and digital innovations.[1]
Early life and education
Segreto was born on May 26, 1987, in Villaricca, Naples in the Campania region of Italy. He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery cum laude from the Università Campus Bio-Medico in 2011. He specialized in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at the same university in 2017, also graduating with top honors.[2]
To further his expertise, Segreto obtained:
- A PhD in Aging and Tissue Regeneration Sciences from Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (2016)
- A second-level Master’s degree in Aesthetic, Functional, and Reconstructive Surgery of the Nasal Pyramid at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
- A diploma in Advanced Microsurgical Techniques (2016)
- A diploma from the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program at Harvard Medical School (2017)
- The National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in Plastic Surgery (2018)[3]

He is currently the Medical Director at the Complex Operating Unit of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital in Rome. Additionally, he has a private practice with offices in Rome, Milan, and Naples.[4]
Research and contributions
Segreto has contributed to research in plastic surgery, regenerative medicine, and aesthetic techniques. His studies include:
- Research on capsular contracture following breast surgery, published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
- Development of a physical-mathematical model to improve healing and reduce scarring in surgeries[5]
- The "Stem Graft" project, which aims to enhance wound healing and scar treatment[6]
- The development of a liquid rhinoplasty technique using hyaluronic acid, widely adopted internationally
