Franco Calzolari (born 27 August 1954) is an Italian architect known for his work in Italy and the United Arab Emirates.

Early life and education

Calzolari was born in Castelnovo di Sotto, Italy. He studied architecture at the University of Venice, graduating in 1978 under Professor Carlo Scarpa. During his studies, he also attended post-graduate courses at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West in Phoenix, Arizona in 1975.[1]

Career

In 1979, Calzolari opened his own architectural studio in Parma. He collaborated with the Superintendence of Architectural Heritage on building surveys and contributed to the General Regulatory Plan for the Municipality of Parma.[1]

During the 1980s, he worked on post-earthquake restoration projects in Emilia-Romagna and contributed to the development of public infrastructure projects, including student residences and university facilities.[2]

Calzolari was part of the urban redevelopment of the Teatro Due area in Parma, working alongside architects Roberto Gabetti, Aimaro Isola, and Stefano Maestri.[3]

In 2006, he founded SGI, an architecture and development firm with offices in London, Milan, and Dubai.
