Fredrik Liliegren

Fredrik Liliegren (born 5 December 1969) is vice president graphics and portability Group of the Software company TransGaming and former CEO of Antic Entertainment, Red Jade[1] and Digital Illusions. He is a co-founder of the Swedish games development studio Digital Illusions. Liliegren worked not as a programmer but as an entrepreneur on the business side of the company and was responsible for founding the demogroup DICE.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Liliegren was born in Lund, Sweden to parents Lars-Göran Liljegren and Lena Bramsbo. As a teenager in Växjö, as a junior high and high school student, he spent a lot of time creating graphics and demo games.[3] He studied computer science at Växjö University, now known as Linnaeus University, in Sweden,[4] but never graduated.[3]

Career[edit]

While studying at Linnaeus, in 1992 Liliegren and fellow students Ulf Mandorff, Olof Gustafsson, Andreas Axelsson and Markus Nystrom, members of the former demogroup the Silents – for which Liliegren acted as a spokesperson[5] – founded the computer game company DICE and developed pinball computer games for Amiga.[6] The first games were Pinball Dreams – which they started developing in 1988[3] and sold in 1992[7] – and the Battlefield series.[4]
