Free French Invasion of Corsica (1943)
The Invasion of Corsica, codenamed Operation Vesuvius, was a part of the Italian Campaign during World War II. The Invasion was carried out by the French in September 1943.[1]
Following the Armistice of Cassibile on September 8, 1943, on September 9, the Germans occupied Corsica with about 12,000 forces. They held out against an Invasion by Free French forces until October 3, when the Germans withdrew from Bastia.
