Free robux (scam)
A common scam that preys on gullible children with the promise of free "robux", an online currency in the game Roblox.
Danger can range from waste of time to serious computer virus infections. While most are harmless, it should be noted that these should be taken seriously as some are dangerous.
Methods
Labour method
The labour method commonly involves asking the victim to verify themselves by "completing an offer" so that "bots don't abuse it." Offers are generally sponsored by companies and are usually going to a website and or shopping there, thus being sponsored gets the scam developer money.
Account stealing method
The account stealing method is an endangered species of this scam as it involves offering "robux" to the account but requiring your username and password and then stealing your account. Due to the fact that the people looking for free "robux" generally don't have any, this means that they often have no value and way to make money.
Virus/Download method
This method involves a "free robux generator download" which is normally infected with a virus which they use to blackmail people into making money.
In popular culture
Free robux has become somewhat an internet meme, appearing as the "bobux" meme. These memes generally focus on the humorous gullibility of children to these scams.
